Elevator
I'll be your elevator baby want you to ride me up and down
Yes I want you to call on me when your man is not around
I'll be your elevator baby, I'm gonna move you nice and slow
But when I ring my bell it's time for you to go
I'll be your elevator baby, I'm gonna leave you on your floor
Just don't push all my buttons and walk right out my door

The Ballad of John Hardy

The Ballad of John Hardy
Way down yonder in an old coal camp there lived the hardest man
He always kept a razor in his boot and a six-gun in his hand
John Hardy was standin' in the dice room door not a soul there new his name
'Till Frankie Jo walked in and threw five dollars down and said deal this poor boy in your game
John Hardy kept bettin' every hand he had but the cards wouldn't bring him no dough
So he shot the dealer dead and run off with the loot to split with little Frankie Jo
By day they chased him up the mountain, night time he'd shoot 'em back down
The finally caught him sleepin' in a hillside shack and took him in chains back to town
They led him throught town in shackles and chains to the McDowell County Jail
Left him sittin' there days and days and days, the judge denied his bail
Frankie Jo'd say, "John Hardy you know I'll always be true when I visit you in red
but the day you see me walk in dressed in black is the day they'll hang you dead
The judge said "John Hardy what you got to say boy 'fore I sentence you to die."
He said, "Judge I've been the death of many a poor boy but these six guns never told one lie."
And when the preacher come to visit John Hardy he said, "Boy don't you die in vain
best drop down your knees and pray to the Lord to save your soul today!"
But John Hardy said, "Preacher I've been to the east and I've been to the west and I've seen this whole world round
and I won't drop to my knees for God or man so take me to my hangin' ground

Angel Honey
There's a hive in New Orleans
Filled with the sound of angel wings
Where the angels make their honey each day till the sun goes down
And their honey tastes so sweet
Make you walk off without your feet
Cause once you're cravin' angel honey
You're Lousiana bound
But each night you'll hear a host of swingin' angels
Cookin' up a joyful sound
Pluckin' "Dixie" on their harps until
The sun get's back in town
Yeah be careful donw there on Bourbon Street boy
Where it isn't hard to find
'Cause one you tast that angel honey son
The devil won't be far behind
And their honey tastes so sweet
Make you walk off without your feet
Cause once you're cravin' angel honey
You're Lousiana bound

Cryin' In The Rain
Well I'm standin in the rain tryin' to cry my blues away
She said she'd love me forever
I guess forever came today
She told my not to cry she said tears don't make a man
Then she walked right out that door
Holdin' another man's hand
Now I'm still standin' here in the rain in case she comes back my way
Least so long as it's rainin'
She can't see the tears roll down my face

Erline
Erline, when you gonna change your ways
You're messin' with trouble
And you're gonna be sorry some day
Erline why can't I make you understand
You're forsakin' your daughter
To run around with some lazy man
I saw your daughter the other day
Runnin' in the streets
Dressed up like a rag doll
with no shoes on her feet
Erline, when you gonna change your ways
You're messin' with trouble
And you're gonna be sorry some day
Erline I guess you finally understand
Your wild child's done grown up
And she done stole your lazy man

Crawdaddy
I'm your crawdaddy baby find me in the creek on a stone
When I get stoned drunk mama, you'll see your daddy crawlin' back home
I've been drinkin' all day, down at the creek
My woman and her kinfol wouldn't give me no peace
I'm your crawdaddy baby find me in the creek on a stone
When I get stoned drunk mama, you'll see your daddy crawlin' back home
Well I've been drinkin' corn liquor since I turned thirteen
And all it ever did was make me mean
That's why when you ask me why I drink like I do
I just tip my hat and say yo-de-lay-dee-hoooh
Well I'm about as high as I can be
Them robins and bluebirds got nothin' on me
I'm your crawdaddy baby find me in the creek on a stone
When I get stoned drunk mama, you'll see your daddy crawlin' back home

Brown Eyed Country Girl
First time that I seen her she was walkin' out the corner store
Thought to myself I've never seen a woman like that before
And as I watched her walkin' down the street
I realised I couldn't move my feet from starin' at that brown eyed country girl
Every fella from miles around know that she is fine
I know I won't be satisfied until I make her mine
Line 'em up and I'll knock 'em down
There ain't no fella in this here town
Gonna steal my brown eyed country girl
I went to see her daddy and said I'll marry your girl someday
He said I think first you should turn her head your way
So I pulled up in my Model-T and asked her to take a ride with me
And drove away with that brown eyed country girl
Took her flowers in April, a frilly dress in May
In June I took her a wedding ring to see just what she'd say
She looked back with such a smile
I knew pretty soon I'd walk that aisle
And make a wife of my brown eyed country girl
First time that I seen her she was walkin' out the corner store
Thought to myself I've never seen a woman like that before
Line 'em up and I'll knock 'em down
There ain't no fella in this here town
Gonna steal my brown eyed country girl
She likes to keep me by her side
And I like to keep her satisfied
That brown eyed country girl
Sometimes I stay away too long
'Cause the way she love me after I been gone
Life is good with that brown eyed country girl

Every Time The Rooster Crows
Well I'm just a simple man
I live my simple way
Simply put I hope I'm stuck with you
For the rest of my days
I don't need fortune I don't need fame
I don't need to live till I'm grey and old
All I need is to be layin' by your side
Every time the rooster crows
I count you as my only blessin' everyday that's true
What could I do if I couldn't spend my whole life lovin' you
Now in my life I've said some stupid things
I've done a few stupid things too
The smartest thing that I ever did
Was set my sites on you
Like I said I'm just a simple man
And there's one thing I want to make sure you know
That's that I thank the lord for puttin' you in my word
Everytime the rooster crows

Helpless
I don't know how long I can go on
And I don't recall just how this race is run
I got the blues so bad I'm ashamed
I got the blues so bad I don't know my name
I don't know how long I've cried
Or how many days I've prayed that I'd just die
I can't tell any more what is and isn't real
I got the blues so bad I can't even feel
I don't know how long I can go on with this pain
Or how many days it's been since you walked away
But your memory haunts me in everything I do
I got the blues so bad I can't think of anything but you

Black Dog On My Trail
Every night about this time you'll find me out ridin' the rails
I can't never stop runnin' there's a black dog on my trail
I said man I'll give you anything for the love of Mary Jo
Now my love's waitin' for me in heaven and I got the devil waitin' for me down below
Ten miles out side of Memphis I smelled sulfur in the air
In Shreveport I heard him whisper my name I swear
Thought I'd lost him in Jackson 'till the moon turned from red to black
When I rolled into Rosedale I swear I felt his breath upon my back
There's a black dog on my trail and lord he just won't let me be
At least the day that I die he'll stop chasin' after me

Hangman
Sheriff Brown saddle up your steed
There's a man on the gallows in desperate need
No one believes that I'm and honest man
If I'm lyin' may the good lord strike me where I stand
They all believe that he killed poor Chey
And now they're smilin' tall just to watch him die
Hangman cut that poor boy loose
That's an innocent boy hangin' from the end of your noose
